Randomness

Oxford English Dictionary defines  "Random" as :  Having no definite aim or purpose; not sent or guided in a particular direction; made, done, occurring, etc., without method or conscious choice; haphazard.  And
Wikipedia defines Randomness as Randomness is a concept of non-order or non-coherence in a sequence of symbols or steps, such that there is no intelligible pattern or combination. Randomness has somewhat disparate meanings as used in several different fields. It also has common meanings which may have loose connections with some of those more definite meanings.
I never thought of the name when i started the blog .  I had always thought of it as an opportunity to share my thoughts and views.  I presume that the updates have become too random, few and far in between.

However, come to think of it.  Is anything actually random in life, in the world around us.  Especially when we are reacting off, each other.  There is definitely a link among all our actions.  Nothing, is random.  Not even this blog.

That after nearly 8 months i have come back to visit this is indicative.  Hence, this will be updated regularly, hereafter.

And, for those of you, if any, who actually read my ramblings Thank you.

Belatedly, Egypt Spots Flaws in Wiping Out Pigs

“The main problem in Egypt is follow-up,” said Sabir Abdel Aziz Galal, chief of the infectious disease department at the Ministry of Agriculture. “A decision is taken, there is follow-up for a period of time, but after that, they get busy with something else and forget about it. This is the case with everything.”

Speaking broadly, there are two systems for receiving services in Egypt: The government system and the do-it-yourself system. Instead of following the channels of bureaucracy, most people rely on an informal system of personal contacts and bribes to get a building permit, pass an inspection, get a driver’s license — or make a living

...............................................................................................

Apparently, as per report from the NY Times, Egypt has exterminated the entire Pig Community-result of which is that the citizens of the place are now living as, indeed Pigs.  Amid squalor and dirt and filth and heaps of garbage piled up on the streets of the city and sure as hell the Pigs must be laughing their fat bellies out.
But, that is not the reason for writing this.  This is about the governmnet and its few decision makers. Soon as the first reports of the Swine Flu broke out,  the order to exterminate the pigs across the country was  given by the president, under the misconception that pigs were the carriers of the virus. So much for the decision makers and the information on which the decisions are made.  Just imagine the plight of the people who have elected them.  And the casualty of the entire exercise-health and hygiene, which it was supposed to take care of, in the first instance.
This - uninformed decision making- is not the only common feature of them and us.  It seems that we are alike in more aspects.  Look at the extract above from the same article. Whilst we made a huge hullaballoo about the swine flu, the increase in the number of detection centres, communication of do's and don'ts, everything seems to have stopped while the death toll continues to rise.  Even the media is seized of issues as trivial.  Another important likeness is the fact that there exist two systems, grease the wheels of the machinery and move forward, grease not and get stuck.
The world it seems is coming closer, than one.

Family Dinosaur, sub type Congress.

The Dinosaur family and the congress Dr. Holtz, who cautioned that the findings needed to be independently confirmed, noted that there had been a gap in the family tree between earlier, more primitive Tyrannosaurs that had relatively short legs and long arms and the later giants with opposite features. “This clarifies the sequence,” he said.

...............................................................................................................................................................

The NY Times report of a new finding of the Dinosaur family.  What this reminds me of is the current Congress Party.  There is genuinely a difference between the running of party then and now. Earlier, in the recent past, we had members of the party who were short on foresight and long on greed. And now we have, atleast some members of the congress, such as Mr Manmohan Singh and the new breed of youngsters, long on education and foresight and short on a myopic view of the system.
The recently, in the news Tweet from Sashi Tharoor, reflects the situation- there is a generation gap- in the party,  with the old and greying roundly condemning it and the young and tech savvy, possibly admiring it.

Is this political evolution- may be so.  Till someone comes along and proves otherwise.

Benching & Virtual Pooling @ schools.

Across the city, principals are facing budgets that are 5 percent slimmer, a steep cut for a school system where coffers swelled until the current economic downturn. As a result, principals, who now wield extraordinary authority over budgets, are learning to say “No,” and hoping the changes they make will not result in academic ruin.

With cash in short supply but loud mandates from above to keep test scores high, principals say they are confronting some of their most challenging decisions, like small class sizes or tutors in English and math? After-school remediation or extra lunchroom monitors? Chess club or drumming class?

This NY Times article on the decrease in outlay of schools brings out a very vivid picture of being able to accept the realities and change to adapt to the changing environment with innovative solutions. May be this scenario of ensuring that funding is restricted/curtailed for performing Government schools can be adopted here too.  But, again maybe.
Similarly, i feel that the Private Sector which is into the Schooling sector be allowed to raise the financial requirements for admission and tuition for students to ensure that they can afford a better teacher to student ratio, instead of cramming classroom.
