Belatedly, Egypt Spots Flaws in Wiping Out Pigs

“The main problem in Egypt is follow-up,” said Sabir Abdel Aziz Galal, chief of the infectious disease department at the Ministry of Agriculture. “A decision is taken, there is follow-up for a period of time, but after that, they get busy with something else and forget about it. This is the case with everything.”

Speaking broadly, there are two systems for receiving services in Egypt: The government system and the do-it-yourself system. Instead of following the channels of bureaucracy, most people rely on an informal system of personal contacts and bribes to get a building permit, pass an inspection, get a driver’s license — or make a living

...............................................................................................

Apparently, as per report from the NY Times, Egypt has exterminated the entire Pig Community-result of which is that the citizens of the place are now living as, indeed Pigs.  Amid squalor and dirt and filth and heaps of garbage piled up on the streets of the city and sure as hell the Pigs must be laughing their fat bellies out.
But, that is not the reason for writing this.  This is about the governmnet and its few decision makers. Soon as the first reports of the Swine Flu broke out,  the order to exterminate the pigs across the country was  given by the president, under the misconception that pigs were the carriers of the virus. So much for the decision makers and the information on which the decisions are made.  Just imagine the plight of the people who have elected them.  And the casualty of the entire exercise-health and hygiene, which it was supposed to take care of, in the first instance.
This - uninformed decision making- is not the only common feature of them and us.  It seems that we are alike in more aspects.  Look at the extract above from the same article. Whilst we made a huge hullaballoo about the swine flu, the increase in the number of detection centres, communication of do's and don'ts, everything seems to have stopped while the death toll continues to rise.  Even the media is seized of issues as trivial.  Another important likeness is the fact that there exist two systems, grease the wheels of the machinery and move forward, grease not and get stuck.
The world it seems is coming closer, than one.
